I'm currently in training to be able to provide EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to my clients. I'm very excited about EMDR as it's shown to be very effective for a variety of issues. As EMDR Canada puts it, "Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and many other mental health problems." I’m a Registered Social Worker, with training in Psychotherapy (a.k.a 'talk therapy'). I am very analytical and reflective, as my friends will agree, so it’s a good thing I’m a therapist so I can put these qualities to good use. I find it’s a helpful way to be when you want to discover what makes you happy and what’s important to you. Of course, the ‘do-ing’ part comes next, and is also important.
I am a graduate of the University of Toronto and hold a Masters Degree in Social Work. I have received training in Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Crisis Intervention, and Relational Therapy. I have been working with clients who struggle with a variety of challenges (such as anxiety or depression, trauma-related symptoms, relational challenges, post-partum challenges, family issues, and managing chronic illness) since 2006. Along with working in private practice with couples and individuals, I have worked in our healthcare system for many years.
I feel privileged when people invite me into their inner world. It takes courage and openness to be able to speak about your thoughts and feelings to a stranger. I do my best to be as non-judgmental, supportive, and honest with my clients. I have found from working with a variety of people that everyone has the ability to learn and change from the challenges life brings us. There’s no limit to our growth, and that’s a wonderful thing. It’s the challenges themselves that can take us closer to happiness, not the avoidance of them.
I love being a therapist, and sometimes I can’t believe I get paid for it.
